James D. White, Sr.

James D. White, Sr.James D. White, Sr. affectionately known as "Jimmy" was born September 18, 1932 to  William and Bettie Mosley White in Maynard, Texas.  James was a proud graduate of the "Famous" Central High School, class of 1951-52.  Following graduation, James went on to attend Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama.  After returning from from Tuskegee, he became an Orderly at John Sealy Hospital and later graduated from the 1961 LVN class at John Sealy Hospital.  After graduating, he worked in the Psychiatry department for many, many years.  He went on to work at St. Mary's Hospital semi- retiring to private duty nursing. 

At an early age, he along with other family members, became very active at Shiloh A.M.E. Church.  While at Shiloh A.M.E. Church, he became an active member of the Mass choir, serving as President for many years, a member of the Trustee board and many other auxiliaries and wherever  needed.  James was also a faithful member of Amity Lodge #4 F & AM.

James held to his faith until December 9, 2009, surrounded by loved ones and the presence of the Almighty God at his bedside. 

James was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, Howard White; sister, Mary Feggins; children, James "Bullie" White, Rhonda "Sue" White, Sharisse "Sherry" White- Harris, and wife, Ann White.

Left to cherish the precious memories of his life are daughter, Doris White Burke (Phillip Sr.); brothers, George White (Thelma), William White (Eula), Clarence Mosley; step brothers, James Hilliard, Albert Hilliard, Jr.; a very devoted sister, Vernal White; step sister, Peggy Hilliard; grandchildren, KaKesha Simmons (Gregory), Calvin W. Holloway, Phillip Burke, Jr., Karl V. Harris, Sydnei S. Harris; great-grand children, Desari K. Holloway, Devyn A. Holloway; son-in-law, Karl E. Harris; sister-in-law, Dorothy Cade; devoted God son, Johnnie Quinnine; nephews, Mark, Ernest, Jimmie, Craig, B. Jay, Bernard, Reginald, Chris, Sammie Luke, Anthony, Jason, Chris; nieces, Kaye, Renee, Lori, Stacia, Shonda, Andrea (Andy).  Special thanks to Lionel Mitchell and James "Big Man" Hilton, who always saw that he got to and from his doctor's appointments, his "KWANZAA" family, a host of other relatives, neighbors, friends, and "The Shiloh A.M.E. Family".  Last but certainly not least, Mr. Lonnie Jones who was a devoted, caring friend who was always there, the best ever. 

Visitation will be held from 5 -7 PM followed by a wake services at 7 P.M.  on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Shiloh A.M.E. Church, 1310 29th Street, Galveston, TX, where the family is inviting friends to come and express their love for "Jimmy" . A homegoing celebration will begin at 12 Noon, Saturday, December 19, 2009,  also at the Shiloh church, the Reverends Eric and Myra Billips will officiate.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.
