Cora Mills
E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary

Cora MillsMrs. Cora Mills received her reward of eternal rest and to join the other saints in glory on December 26, 2009, at Gulf Health Care Center in Texas City, TX.

Cora was born on April 23, 1914, Morgan City, LA to Arthur and Cora Brown Dennis. A  longtime resident of Galveston, she was a member of Compton Memorial COGIC for the past 81 years, where she faithfully served as the Sunday school Superintendent, in the choir, with  the YPWW, YWCC and WCC, as the State Sunday school field representative, and as one of Compton's local, district and state representative.

Mrs. Mills is preceded in death by her husband, Deloache Mills; parents; a daughter; two brothers; two sisters; step-mother, Cecilia Portis; and one who had great influence on her life, Superintendent Maurice Compton and wife Lillie.

Mrs. Mills is survived by her daughter, Carroll McChristian; seventeen grandchildren; nephews, Elder Rodrick Reeves, Sr., Minister Michael Washington, Garrett Wood, Joshua Washington, Elder Raymond Hennigan II, Bethel Hennigan; niece, Janita Washington; spiritual daughter, Evangelist Erica Byrd; providers, Wanda Love and Keshara Preston; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 10 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2010, followed by a celebration service worthy of a faithful servant at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church (3602 Sealy), Rev. N.D. Burkley Pastor, Superintendent James Strolger officiating and the Elder R. E. Woodard III eulogist. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.
