March Primary Election Filing

Filing ends today for the March 2 Primary Election, with several area candidates filing for positions in federal, state and county offices.

Local Republican and Democratic organizations are accepting candidate filings through 6 p.m. today. Filings will then be submitted for placement on the ballot.

In Brazoria County, several Republican incumbents are on the ballot, including State Representative for District 25 Dennis Bonnen, County Judge E.J. "Joe" King, and Brazoria County Commissioner for Precinct 2 Matt Sebesta.  The Brazoria County GOP is publishing its ballot on its web site. Brazoria County GOP Ballot List

According to the Democratic Party of Texas web site, incumbent Mary Ruth Rhodenbaugh has filed for re-election to Brazoria County Commissioner Precinct 4.  Other filings in the county include Doug Blatt, who has filed for United States Representative for District 22, Peggy Sue Bittick and Edlena Faye Gordon, who have filed for District Judge of the 149th District Court.

In Harris County, Republican incumbents include Ed Emmet, who has filed to run for re-election as Harris County Judge, Leo Vasquez, who is running to fill an unexpired term as County Tax Assessor-Collector, and Jerry Eversole, who is seeking re-election to County Commissioner Precinct 4. Kevin Mauzy and Stan Stanart have filed for Harris County Clerk under the Republican ticket.  Incumbent Beverly Kaufman has not filed for re-election to the position. Harris County Democrats who have filed for re-election include Sylvia Garcia, who is seeking re-election to County Commissioner Precinct 2.  Gordon Quan and Ahmad Hassan have filed under the Democratic ticket for County Judge, and Sue Smith Schechter and Ann Harris Bennet have filed to run for County Clerk.  Harris County Democratic Party Candidate Listing

In Galveston County, James Yarbrough has filed for re-election in the Democratic primary as County Judge.  Kurt Sistrunk has also filed for re-election as Criminal District Attorney for Galveston County.

In Jefferson County, Carolyn Guidry has filed for re-election as County Clerk under the Democratic ticket. Jeff Branick and John Paul Davis have filed for County Judge under the Democratic ticket as well, according to the Democratic Party of Texas web site.  The office is currently held by Ron Walker.
