Jim Guidry Commentaries Hurricane Ike Remembered
In Remembrance
Evelyn Frances Hammonds
Malloy & Son Funeral Home

Evelyn Frances Hammonds went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 4, 2010.  She was born in 1931 in Galveston, Texas and remained here throughout her life.   She was proud to be a BOI.

After graduating from Ball High School, Evelyn spent several years working as a secretary at ANICO and the UTMB Blood Bank. Evelyn was a 30-year member of Bible Baptist Church.  Prior to that, she was a charter member of University Baptist Church.  At both churches, she served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School worker and church secretary for many years.

Over the years, Evelyn enjoyed a variety of artistic activities which included sewing, quilting, cake decorating, painting and ceramics.  Many times her family and friends joined her in those endeavors. Evelyn had also spent many years researching her family’s history. However, her best times were spent with her grandchildren, Laurie and Nicholas. Each of them spent their first three years at Nanny’s house when their mom and dad were working. She never missed an activity or performance when they were involved.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Hammonds; parents, William and Dora Tanner; and her brother and sister-in-law, Buzzy and Bennie Tanner.  Left with cherished memories are her daughter, Cathy Einecke and son-in-law, Nick; grandchildren, Nicholas R.  Einecke, Laurie Einecke and fiancé Mark Staempfli; nephew and niece, Bill and Jennifer Tanner; and other family members in Texas and Kentucky.  Evelyn also is survived by Nita Northcutt, Grace Herod, Tim & Chris York, Edith & Judy Enbey, Dot Childs, the Vargas, Lane & Hankins families and other dear friends at Bible Baptist Church.

Special thanks to Theresa & Winnie Einecke, her caring neighbors and the care givers of Concord Homes, the Hospice Care Team, and the Skilled Nursing area at Gulf Health Care Center – Texas City.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, 7021 Heards Lane, Galveston, TX 77551

Evelyn’s family will receive visitors after 5:00 pm, Wednesday, January 6th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, January 7th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Raju Samuel officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Grace Memorial Park in Santa Fe.
