The Hitchcock Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday cast a tie vote of 3-3, with Estelle Holmes, Pat Turner and Shirley Price in favor and Dianne James, Monica Cantrell and Tom Ivey opposed, regarding a motion to extend Superintendent Dr. Michael Bergman's contract with the district to 2012.  Therefore, the motion failed due to a lack of a majority.

The school board voted unanimously to approve the 2010-2001 School Calendar.

The school board voted unanimously to affirm that the last day of formal instruction will be June 4, 2010, and approve April 24 as the deadline for giving notice of proposed non-renewal of a teacher's contract.

The school board voted unanimously to set February 11 as the date for an Open House at Hitchcock Primary School.

The school board voted 3-1-2, with Cantrell opposed and James and Ivey abstaining, to grant a grievance request for Rona Smith and to issue an apology on behalf of the board.  The item was discussed during an executive session.

The school board voted 3-1-2, with Cantrell opposed and James and Ivey abstaining, to grant a grievance request for Rachael Stephenson and to issue an apology on behalf of the board.  The item was discussed during an executive session.

The school board had voted 5-0-1, with Pat Turner not present during the vote, to approve a motion to have all "at-will" employees be presented to the board for approval in the same manner professional employees are presented.  However, the board voted unanimously later in the meeting to rescind the motion and to place the item on a future agenda for further consideration.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote.  Agenda

During the meeting, Bergman presented a proclamation recognizing January as School Board Recognition Month.  Each member of the board also received a plaque from the Texas Association of School Boards recognizing their efforts for the district.
