Carolyn “Mamie” DuronCarolyn “Mamie” Duron passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, January 22, 2010.

She was born Carolyn Mancillas on June 1, 1925, in Waco, TX to John and Victoria Mancillas.  She married and moved to Galveston where she and her husband chose to make their home and raise a family.  She loved to travel and visit churches all over the world. She was an active member in several island community organizations and a long time member and volunteer at Sacred Heart Church and former president of several clubs: The Navy Mother‘s Club, Women’s Woodmen of the World Chapter and The Treasure Island Grandmother’s Club.  Carolyn was also very active at the Senior Citizen Center, where she held bingo for the seniors once a week for as long as her health allowed. 

She is preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffrey Brian Roark.

She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother.  Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 63 years , Julian Santos Duron, Sr. and 11 children: her 5 sons,  Julian, Jr. and wife Mary, Henry and wife Donna,  Johnny and wife Hilda, Michael and wife Diane, Jimmy and wife Cindy;  her 6 daughters, Rosemary and husband Gary Howard, Carolyn and husband Joe Moreno, Marianne and husband George Ruiz, Elizabeth and husband Glen Click, Rebecca and husband Jeff Roark and Victoria Duron; her 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; her sisters, Rebecca Bridge and Mary Lou Kennedy and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held after 5:00pm Tuesday, January 26th at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston.  A Rosary will be held at 7:00pm.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 27th, at Sacred Heart Church.
