Viola (Vi) Quiroga

Viola (Vi) QuirogaViola (Vi) Quiroga passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas. 


Vi was born on July 15, 1944 in Galveston, Texas to Jose Angel Quiroga and Josephine Gonzales Quiroga.  On August 31, 1997, she retired from the Department of Pediatrics, Nephrology Division after 33 years of service at UTMB.  For 27 of those years, Vi worked for Dr. Luther B. Travis. She was a member of the ABWA Sand Dollar Chapter, a Master Gardener, a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Bible Study Group, was a volunteer at the Gleanings of the Harvest in Galveston, and a UTMB Retiree member.  Her hobbies were baking, crocheting, scrapbooking, going to Coushatta, volunteering and gardening.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose A. Quiroga, Sr., and Josephine Gonzales Quiroga; her sisters, Yolanda Quiroga, Mercedes Garcia, and Mary Morales.  She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy L. Quiroga, Gipsy R. Quiroga, and Guadalupe (Lupe) Doreck; brothers, Joe Jr.; C. L. (Butch) and wife, Bonnie, of Bayou Vista; George M. and wife, Genia, of Galveston; William; Roger (Bo); David M. and wife, Julie; Edward Garcia; and Richard Garcia and wife, Vicky, all of Galveston; uncles, Robert Quiroga and wife, Juanita; Carlos Quiroga; and Dan Garza, Sr.; aunt, Irene Quiroga; her only Godson, Brandon Joseph Quiroga; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and one great, great nephew; and numerous cousins.


Visitation will be held after 5:00 pm Friday, February 12, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with a memorial service and rosary to begin at 6:30pm, led by Deacon John Pistone and Dr. Luther B. Travis.
