Galveston Planning Commission Unanimously Approves
Galveston Housing Authority’s Development Plan
Galveston, Texas - With all in favor, the Galveston Planning Commission approved the GHA’s conceptual redevelopment plan for Oleander Homes, Cedar Terrace, and Magnolia Homes. This decision will allow GHA’s Development plan to go before the city council for their final approval so that GHA can move forward with rebuilding affordable housing on the island. The only recommended changes by the Planning Commission were to adjust the amount of units on each of the three sites. However, the submitted number of 569 units will not change.
The plan, which was based largely on community input, will incorporate several urbanism concepts, including green building principles, open spaces and mixed income developments. The City Council will review the plans on February 25, 2010.
The GHA believes Wednesday’s vote constitutes a very positive step to provide an adequate supply of safe, affordable housing for Galveston citizens.
