Henry Reid Hankamer
Hayes Funeral Home

Mr. Henry Reid Hankamer went to build a new home with the Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2010, passing away at Mainland Medical Center.

He was born on December 23, 1931 in Galveston to Fred A. and Anna Mae Hankamer. He moved to Santa Fe in 1948 and there he raised his family. He graduated from LaMarque High School in 1949. Right out of high school, he worked for Gulf Lumber Co. until his call into the Air Force. While stationed in Sioux City, Iowa, he met the love of his life, Norma. They were married for 56 years. After his service to his country, they returned to Santa Fe and he began working on airplanes with Navyon in Galveston. Mr. Hankamer then worked for 15 years with Monsanto and in 1975 he started his own construction business, H.R. Hankamer, Inc., doing what he loved most.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred A. and Anna Mae (Sealy) Hankamer and brother, Fred A. Hankamer, Jr.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Norma; sons and daughters–in-law: Ricky and Lisa of Alvin, Rodney and Janet, Rusty and Kathy, all of Santa Fe; seven grandchildren, Adam, Melissa, Ryan, Dwayne, Jeff, Jonathan and his special angel, Kaylene and one great-grandson, Andrew Reid.

A Memorial Service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend Darrell Boswell officiating.  A private cremation will be conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Friends may call from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock (409) 925-3501.
