Primary Elections in the Gulf Coast Region

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee easily defeated challenges from Houston City Council Member Jarvis Johnson and Sean Roberts to win the Democratic nomination for the 18th Congressional District for another term.  In November she will face John Faulk, the winner of the Republican Primary.

Kesha Rogers won a three person race for the Democratic nomination for the 22nd Congressional District and will face Republican incumbent Pete Olson in November.

Congressman Ron Paul easily won the nomination of Republican voters for reelection to the 14th Congressional District. He will face the winner of a runoff between Robert Pruett and Winston Cochran for the Democratic nomination.

In a race that may see a recount, Borris Miles narrowly defeated Al Edwards for the Democratic nomination to the Texas House of Representatives District 146. Miles and Edwards have traded the office through elections for the past several years. There is no Republican in the race.

District 129 Representative John Davis won the Republican nomination for another term. There is no Democrat in the race.

In Harris County politics, Gordon Quan won the Democratic nomination for County Judge and will face Republican incumbent Ed Emmett in November.

Don Sumners defeated incumbent Leo Vasquez for the Republican nomination for Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector. Sumners will face Diane Trautman, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, in November.

Stan Stanart defeated Kevin Mauzy in the Republican race for County Clerk and will face Ann Harris Bennett who won the Democratic nomination. Current Harris County Clerk Beverly Kaufman did not seek reelection.

In Galveston County, Doug Godinich, who is currently the election coordinator in the County Clerk's Office, won a very close race with Brandy Chapman, the chief deputy in that office, for the Democratic nomination for County Clerk. Godinich will face Republican Dwight Sullivan in November. Current County Clerk Mary Ann Daigle did not seek reelection.

Chris Daniel won the Republican nomination for Harris County District Clerk. He will face Democrat Loren Jackson in November.

Galveston County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Sonny James survived a Democratic primary challenge from Keith Bell, who currently is a member of La Marque City Council.

Kevin O'Brien defeated Joe Giusti in an election for the Republican nomination for Galveston County Commissioners Court Precinct 2.  He will face incumbent Democratic Commissioner Bryan Lamb in November.

In Jefferson County, Carolyn Guidry handily defeated three challengers to win the Democratic nomination for another term.

Precinct 4 County Commissioner Bo Alfred easily won the Democratic nomination for his reelection but longtime Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Domingue lost a close race to  Ashley Brent Weaver.

Georgine Guillory won the Democratic Primary for County Treasurer.

Jefferson County District Attorney Tom Maness defeated a challenger to win the Democratic nomination to another term.

There were no contested races in the Republican Primary in Jefferson County.

In Brazoria County, Larry Stanley won the Republican nomination for Brazoria County Commissioner Precinct 4.  He will face Democrat Mary Ruth Rhodenbaugh in November.

Rhonda Cross Barchack won the Republican nomination for District Clerk. There is no Democrat in the race.
