Maria Aguirre Huerta, 58, of Galveston died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston with Father E. J. Stein officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston. Visitation will be Monday, March 8, 2010 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home with a Rosary will be recited at 7 P.M..
Maria was born February 6, 1952 in Port Isabel, Texas and moved to Galveston in 1961 where she grew up and attended school graduating from Ball High School. Maria worked for the City of Galveston Water Department. She enjoyed playing golf and was the only woman to make a “Hole-in-one” at the Galveston Municipal Golf Course. She also enjoyed listening to music, chatting with friends and being with her grandchildren, and she loved her dogs Lad, Marli and Carli. Maria also attended Lakewood Church in Houston.
Maria was preceded in death by two brothers, Constantino and Jose “Tuto” Aguirre. Survivors include her parents, Jose “Pepe” Aguirre and Maria M. Aguirre; daughter, Kim Aguirre-Villarreal and her husband Gilbert “Guero”; grandchildren, Mason, Joshua, Cameron and Dimitri Villarreal; nephews, Marc Anthony Aguirre and Joseph Aguirre and dear friend for over 40 years Yolanda Moran.
Pallbearers will be Mason Villarreal, Joshua Villarreal, Gilbert Villarreal, Arthur South, Marc Anthony Aguirre and Ray Arespe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cameron Villarreal and Dimitri Villarreal.
