The filing period for the La Marque City Council May 8 Special Election for District A passed on Wednesday, with incumbent Keith Bell unopposed for the position.
According to the La Marque City Clerk's Office, a challenger had filed, but then later withdrew the application, leaving Bell unopposed for re-election.
Bell had vacated his seat after placing his name on the ballot for a Galveston County Justice of the Peace position in the March Primary Election. Bell was defeated in the election. He filed earlier this week for re-election to the seat in the May 8 special election.
The city council will consider an order to cancel the election at a future meeting.
