Malloy & Son Funeral Home

Avis Virginia Spencer Burrow, 93, of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at her residence.

Her family will receive visitors at 10:00 am, Saturday, May 1st, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, at Grace Memorial Park in Santa Fe.

Avis was born August 26, 1916, in Hoxie, Arkansas, and was a resident of Galveston since 1945.  Avis was worked for A & M Pharmacy, Fred F. Hunter, and Fattig Office Supplies during her working career.  Her greatest hobby was crocheting baby receiving blankets and caps for many friends and acquaintances.  She was also a master at crossword puzzles.

Avis was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Murray Spencer; second husband, Jerry Alvin Burrow; and son, William Murray Spencer.

She is survived by her son, Michael Spencer and wife, Joan, of Schulenburg, TX; grandchildren: Vincent Spencer and wife, Allison, of Houston; Cody Spencer and Cherie Gardener of Galveston; Donnie Howell and wife, Julie, of South Shore Harbor; Casey Howell of Galveston; and Francie Buergler and husband, David, of Galveston; great grandchildren: Tegan and Wade Spencer of Houston; and Elle Buergler, of Galveston; and former daughter-in-law, Frances Howell, of Galveston.

Pallbearers will be Avis’ grandchildren and Bobby Richardson.

Her family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Angela Shepherd and to good friends, Bobby Richardson and Dottie Griffin for their love and care.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
