Danny Wade DohertyDanny Wade Doherty 54 of Galveston died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the funeral home, where an Elk’s Memorial Service will be held at 6:30pm and a prayer service at 7:00pm.

 

Danny was born March 3, 1956 in Galveston where he grew up and lived his entire life and was a Firefighter and Driver for the Galveston Fire Department and retired after 28 years of service. Danny was also Owner-Operator of the Alabama Lounge for 16 years and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks # 126 for many years. He was a kind and loving person with a big heart. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. Danny was a wonderful father to his children, uncle to his nieces and nephews, and a wonderful brother to his sister and brothers. He loved being around all of his friends at the Alabama, especially his “Road Dogs”, Butch Powell, Phillip Yeager, Manny Gonzalez, George Tavarez, Philip Urbina, Bobby Doherty, Frank Vargas, Clifford Harris and Rey Soto. He truly loved being a firefighter like his father and grandfather. Danny will be missed by everyone.

 

Danny was preceded in death by his parents George and Betty Jo Doherty; a brother, George P. Doherty, Jr., grandparents, James and Mary Mitchell and Patrick and Helen Doherty; and 3 grandchildren. Survivors include 2 sons, Carl Anthony Perry and wife Beth, and Robert Allen Perry; three daughters, Terri Lynn Miller and Robert, Crystal Lynn Jackson and husband Norman and Brittney Proctor and husband Mark; sister, Donna Vargas and husband Frank; brothers John Patrick Doherty and Cathy and Robert W. Doherty; 10 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many many friends.

 

Pallbearers will be Mike Varela, Sr., Jens Jensen, Sr., Sisto Trigg, Danny Weber, Sr., John Deslauries, Scott Smith, Harrison Johnson and John Ovalle. Honorary Pallbearers will be Albert Trevino, Philip Urbina, George Tavarez, Butch Powell, Phillip Yeager, Bill May, Rey Soto, Ricky Benavidez, Bruce Kahla, Amado Lopez, and Benny Garza.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of UTMB MICU and The Emergency Room, the Galveston EMS and the Galveston Fire Department for their special care and attention given to Danny during his extended illness.
