Dr. Joe Rossano (left to right), of Alvin, presents a certificate of appreciation to Julia and Joe Cordova, of Friendswood, at a dedication ceremony for a memorial monument of the North Side School at Ruben Adame Park in Alvin on May 2.

The Cordovas donated the monument, which will be erected at the site of the former school when completed. The North Side School operated in the early to mid-1900s for children of Mexican descent. Numerous former students of the school, including Joe Cordova, attended the event. The dedication ceremony was organized by Marian Briones, also a former student of North Side School.
