Remembering Jim Guidry Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
Galveston County
Dickinson Police Department
News Release
Monday, May 24, 2010

Taelah Smith and Wilbert Burton have been located by Alvin Police Department. Both subjects are well and healthy.

Smith and Burton were located at approximately 10:15 AM this morning in the 1400 block of Victory Lane in Alvin. The Alvin Police were contacted by a citizen who recognized the subjects from the Amber Alert issued yesterday evening. They went to that location and met with Wilbert Burton and Taelah Smith. Taelah appeared to be in good health and was turned over to her mother.

Wilbert Burton was interviewed by Dickinson Police Detectives and he said that he was attempting to bring Taelah back to her mother's apartment. The area where Burton had called his family from was near an apartment where the mother had once lived. Wilbert was released without charges.

The police investigation is still ongoing and the case will be reviewed with the District Attorney's Office. Childrens' Protective Services is also conducting a follow-up investigation.
