Galveston County Judge Jim Yarbrough, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Brazoria County Judge Joe King, as well as port officials from Galveston, Houston and Freeport, representatives of the United States Coast Guard, the Texas General Land Office, and emergency management and health department officials from Galveston County will hold a news conference at the Galveston County Courthouse next Tuesday.
The officials will meet with the news media "to discuss what steps have been taken and are being considered in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill off the coast of Louisiana," the announcement said.
The news conference will be at noon on June 1 in the lobby of the Galveston County Courthouse at 722 Moody Avenue in Galveston.
At 1:30 in the Galveston County Commissioners Courtroom Judges Yarbrough, Emmett and King will be joined by their counterparts from Brazoria, Jefferson and Orange counties for a meeting of the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District, to discuss issues related to a feasibility study of a storm surge system to protect the Upper Texas Coast.
