Mae Katherine Pratorius Bell

Mae Katherine Pratorius BellMae Pratorius Bell, 92, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2010 in Friendswood, TX. She has resided at Emeritus Assisted Living since leaving Galveston due to Hurricane Ike.

Mae was born in Galveston on May 1, 1918 to William and Beatrice Vollert. She married Wallace K. Pratorious on October 1, 1938 and they were happily married for over fifty years until his death in 1989. In 1995, Mae married Edward W. Bell, Sr. They lived in Galveston until his death in 1997.

Mae enjoyed all card games with family and friends, especially bridge and poker. She was an avid golfer achieving two holes in one. She was a member of several social clubs including: Widow's Club and Dance Club.

Mae is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brothers, William A. Vollert, Jr. Roy Vollert, and Vincent Vollert, and grandson-in-law, Kevin Hays.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Elyshia and Max Roth, son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Marilyn Pratorius, grandchildren, Leigh Anne and Ben Hill, Robin Hays, Scott and Melissa Pratorius, Jason and Lisa Roth, Mark and Susan Pratorius, and Elizabeth and Jeremy Simmons, fourteen great grandchildren, brothers, Frank and May Vollert, and Thomas Vollert, and many nieces and nephews, step children, Bill and Andrea Bell, Beth and Tim Shelton, and their families.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Malloy & Son Funeral Home beginning at 12:30 pm with services at 2:00 pm, with Reverend Douglas Guthier officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston County Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock.

Memorials may be sent to First Lutheran Church where Mae was a lifelong member.
