Shirley Faye Jackson Guyton, 59, entered into eternal rest after answering the call of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at her home in LaMarque. She was born on August 14, 1950 in Galveston, TX to the late Rev. Watkins Jackson and Emmie Wimberly Jackson.
Shirley attended public school in Galveston. She graduated from Central High School in 1968. She graduated from Galveston College in 1990 with an Associate Degree in Nursing (RN).
Shirley worked at UTMB in her early years. She moved to Arcadia, LA in the early 90’s and was Director of Nursing at several nursing homes. She loved taking care of the elderly. She spent ten years taking care of her mother in Louisiana and then later in Texas until her mother went to be with the Lord three years ago. Shirley reunited with Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.S. Johnson. She loved the Lord and loved studying His Word.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents: Earl and Maggie Wimberly; Monroe and Jennie Jackson; brothers, James Monroe Jackson, Bobby Jackson, Rev. Watkins Jackson, Jr. and Eddie Jackson; nephews, Rudy Pickney and Chris Boyd, Jr.
Shirley’s memory will forever linger in the hearts of her children, sons, Jarrod Blakely (Misty) of Galveston, Darold Blakely (Renee) of Hodge, LA; daughters, Lisa Blakely (Marlon) of Texas City, Lakesha Blakely (Rodney) of Galveston; grandchildren, Jerriesha & Kennietha Blakely, Jevon and Jamal Moon, Kiera and Frank Morgan, Rodney Webb, Serenity Blakely, Bobby Cowan, Taverous and Annieya Lathan; brothers, Phillip Jackson of Shreveport, LA, Len Muhammad (Linda) of Houston; sisters, Erma Boyd-Nelson of La Marque, Alma Holmes of Arcadia, LA; godson, Carlos Watson; aunts, Clytie Washington of Galveston, Lornette Alexander of Detroit, MI, Lisa Walker of Las Vegas, NV, Marie Washington of Phoenix, AZ and Lynn Smith of Indianapolis, IN; sister-in-law, Velma Jackson of Galveston; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will begin on Friday, June 11th at 4 p.m., followed by a wake from 7-8 pm at Fields- Johnson Family Mortuary (3828 Ave. O). Homegoing Celebration for Shirley will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 12:00 Noon at Jerusalem Baptist Church, (2717 Ball), Galveston. She will be laid to rest at Mainland Memorial Cemetery, Hitchcock. All expressions will be done at the wake on Friday and not at the funeral.
