Helen was born April 9, 1927, in Mansfield, LA to Landry, Sr. and Bettie Claiborne. She was a longtime resident of Galveston and was a member of Sunlight Baptist Church, where she served as president of Mission II, Sunday School teacher, in the choir and director of the church Kindergarten program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Vodis, Landry, Jr. and Dawson Claiborne; sister, Betty Baker.

She leaves with cherish memories, brother, Alford Claiborne(Rita); sisters, H.B. Waire and Edith Claiborne; faithful friend, Cora Elias; five nephews; three nieces; host of  cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 5PM on today, July 16th, followed by a wake from 7-8PM at Fields-Johnson Family Mortuary. A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Sunlight Baptist Church with Pastor A.C. Tryon officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery
