Mrs. Dorothy Springer Mitchell passed from this life Tuesday night, July 27, 2010, in Alvin.
Born July 1, 1918 in Center Hill, FL, Mrs. Mitchell had been a lifetime resident of Santa Fe for 64 years previously of Florida. She served in the US Air Force in the Women’s Air Corp for 2 years, attended the University of Florida in Gainsville, FL and had owned and operated Dot’s Beauty Shop for 42 years. Dorothy was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 15 in Alvin, in addition to being a member of Hitchcock Baptist Church, Daughters of the Nile and the Santa Fe Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Charles H. Springer, Sr. and Jack A. Mitchell, Sr.; parents, James Lonnie and Lillie (Whitten) Jones.
Survivors include her son, Charles H. Springer, Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Clear Lake; daughter, Frances Cox and husband, D. J. of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Rodney Verm, Jeff Verm, Andria Springer; sister, Ouida Francis of Roswell, GA and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend Dale Chance officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
