Florence Breslin Roach, 86, of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010, in Galveston, Texas, after a brief illness.
Flo was born October 6, 1923, in Galveston, Texas, to William A. and Louise Poole Breslin. She worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers and then was a longtime Deputy County Clerk for Galveston County, retiring in 1988. One of Flo’s passions in life was her volunteer work with the USO during World War II; it was because of this service that she received a Distinguished Service Award from the United Service Organization. Flo also taught Sunday School at Trinity Episcopal Church and during her later years, she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was an accomplished painter, enjoyed sculpture, and was an avid flower gardener.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur James Roach; sister, Mary Grace Breslin; brother, William Edwin Breslin; and niece, Elizabeth Ann Breslin.
She is survived by her sons, Richard John Roach of Galveston and James Arthur Roach and wife, Elizabeth, of Highland Village, TX; sisters, Jane Everett Breslin of Galveston and Dorothy L. Breslin Spangenberg and husband, Ronald, of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren: Justin David Roach of Dallas; Amanda Renee Roach of Grapevine, TX; Lauren Elizabeth Roach of Palo Alto, CA; and Mackenzie Elise Roach of Highland Village, TX; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Richard Roach, James Roach, Justin Roach, Robert Walp, Larry Griffin, and Robert Hern. Dr. Arthur Roach and Bill Breslin will act as honorary pallbearers.
Flo’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 5th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 6th, at Grace Episcopal Church with Father Paul Wehner officiating. Burial will follow the service at Galveston’s Oleander Cemetery on Broadway.
