Friendswood Independent School District
Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, August 31, 2010

The Friendswood Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday voted unanimously to utilize $72,213 in bond funding for the purchase of various items.

The purchase included items for the junior high choir, the high school's science, physics lab and drama departments, and the ELA department at the junior high and high school.

The school board voted to purchase a $31,371 HVAC compressor from Hunton Trane Services.  The compressor will replace a failed unit at the high school.

The school board voted to approve final amendments to the 2009-2010 budget.

The school board voted to approve a memorandum of understanding with the City of Friendswood for the use of the city's football fields at Centennial Park by the Friendswood Junior High football teams.

The city is allowing use of two detention fields by the district during school hours and 4-6 p.m. for practices, and use of the stadium field for football games on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

The school board voted to approve changes to the district's policy regarding the non-school use of school facilities.

"The change would allow the district to lease a facility that is no longer needed for school related activities for a period greater than one year," Superintendent Trish Hanks said.

All other items were approved.  All votes were unanimous with trustees Brandon Burris, Daniel Hopkins and Matthew Robinson absent.  Agenda
