Galveston Police Officer, Lt. John Wayne Jennings age 75 of Galveston passed away Monday, September 13, 2010 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, Texas. Funeral services are 10:00 am Monday, September 20, 2010 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Hankins officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston, Texas. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home where an Elk’s Memorial Service will be held at 6:30pm.
Lt. Jennings was born August 17, 1935 in Pritchard, Alabama to Bartley Merl Jennings and Sarah Lillian Richmond Jennings. He was a 48 year veteran of the Galveston Police Department. Lt. Jennings served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, the Municipal Police Officers Association for 19 years and was a 35 year member of the B.P.O.E. Galveston Lodge # 126. As a proud grandfather he truly enjoyed loving his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Nancy Fay Wooten and Peggy Hood and a son, Dennis Crouch, survivors include his wife of 52 years, Perry Lou Hughes Jennings; sons, Mathew Jennings, J. Wes Jennings ( Tabitha) all of Galveston, and Glenn O’Brian Jennings ( Sandy Hope) of Costa Mesa, CA; daughters, Debbie Kay Edwards (Dana) of Palestine, Texas and Diana Lynn Paytrillo of Florida; sister, Sylvia Hoyland (Gerald) of Texas City; brothers, Bartley Merl Jennings (Madeline) of La Marque, James Ray Jennings (Virginia) of Hitchcock, and Karl Glenn Jennings (Norma Jean) of Galveston; brothers-in-law, Don Wooten and Steve Hood; 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers are J. Wes Jennings, Mathew Jennings, Matthew Wayne Jennings, Glenn Jennings, Bart Jennings, and Glenn O’Brian Jennings. Honorary pallbearers are Sherriff Freddie Lee Poor, Dallas Raymond Adams, James Ray Jennings, Jack Bolton, Jack Dawson, Eddie Barr and the Galveston Police Department.
