N.A. “Al” Altemus

CRYSTAL BEACH — N.A. “Al” Altemus, passed away October 19, 2010, at his residence. Al was born March 22, 1922, in League City, Texas. Survivors include daughter, Frances “Bunny” Altemus Gallaher; son, David Allen Altemus and wife Debra; grandchildren Fred Swift and wife Lauren, Amber McKinley and husband J.D.; great-grandchildren Hunter and Nicholas Swift, Isom, Madden and Rowan McKinley; sister, Emmy Lu Scherer; former wife and friend, Betty J. Altemus; sister-in-law Doris Kindred; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Al was a member of Knights of Columbus #2917, American Legion Post 554, F.O.E.3719, Crystal Beach Cemetery Committee, Crystal Beach City Council and Mayor Pro-Tem, and a director of Bolivar Peninsula W.S.C./S.U.D

Visitation will be held on Thursday October 21, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil at 6 p.m. at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Houston, with Father Sean Wenger officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be John Schmalz, Johnny McLaughlin, Chris Holm, Ron Fonke, Chris Nixon and Fred Swift.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all past and present board members of Bolivar Peninsula W.S.C/S.U.D., Jerry Mathis, Billy Knight, Nelson Long, Gardner Byrom, Joe Willis, Charlie Dore’, Dan Wilson, Billy Sharp, George Hughes, Billy Ray Brannan, Donald Hearn, Warren Dudley, Norman Rosenthal, Willie Goldberg.

In lieu of flowers, Al requests donations be made to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center or UTMB Cancer Research.

Al and family would like to express a special thanks to UTMB staff, Assist-Med Home Health, Lighthouse Hospice.
