Westside High School students and staff will salute area veterans at the school’s third annual “Westside Salutes America” concert on Tuesday, November 9 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium located at 14201 Briarforest Drive.
The pre-Veteran’s Day celebration features a musical concert by Westside student performers from the school’s band, choir, orchestra, and ROTC programs. More than 350 students will perform and current and former members of the armed forces are invited.
Last year, nearly 1,000 people, including local veterans and their family members, packed the Westside auditorium for the concert. “We hope to have even more guests this year to help us honor the true heroes of our country,” said Westside Band Director Kelly Porter. “Our concert is unique in that the performers surround the audience, playing from all areas of the auditorium, not just the stage. It truly is an amazing and moving event.”
The concert is free, open to the public, and will feature patriotic tunes, American favorites, feature selections from important American composers, and a tribute to the veterans and members of the armed forces in attendance.
