Malloy & Son Funeral Home

Juanita MartinJuanita Martin, of Bayou Vista, went to be at peace with the Lord on Tuesday, November 9th, 2010, with her loved ones by her side.  She was born February 18th, 1932 in Rogansville, TX.


She was preceded in death by her parents Wilhelmina and Douglas Chesser, son Donald Lee Griffin Jr., and husband Joseph Martin.


Juanita is survived by sisters, Ann Griffin, Barbara Burlingame and brother, Billy Chesser; daughters, Brenda Brown, Linda Garcia and husband Dan, Glenda Rains, Regina Cowen and husband Steve, Mary Calvert and husband Tracy; 9  grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous other family members as well as loving companion, Charlie Elmore.


Juanita graduated in 1950 from Milby High School, Houston, TX.  She married twice, first in 1950 to Donald Griffin, father of her six beloved children.  Later, she married Joseph Martin and operated the Best Bait Camp and the Galveston Yacht Basin Bait Camp for over twenty-five years before retiring in Galveston, TX.  Juanita was an artist and sculptor and loved all types of arts and crafts. She loved gardening and decorating her yard for the holidays.  Juanita enjoyed going on trips and cruises with her sisters and friends.  She was a past member of the Elks Lodge #126 Ladies Auxiliary, Krewe of Aquarius and an active member of the Saltwater Garden Club of Bayou Vista.  She was a very loving mother with a heart of gold and a great friend to all. Juanita’s daughters, family and friends will miss her dearly and cherish the memories of many gatherings she hosted at her home in Galveston and Bayou Vista.


Juanita’s family wishes to extend special thanks to UTMB 5-C nurses and AMED Community Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Mike Brown, Cody Brown, Nick Cowen, Steve Cowen, Michael Rains Jr., Tyler Orr, Billy Brown and Tracy Calvert Jr.  Honorary pallbearer will be Jayce Halloran.


Juanita’s family will receive visitors from 3:00 until 5:00 pm, Sunday, November 14th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  Galveston Elks Lodge #126 will recognize her years of service to the auxillary at 4:30 pm.


Funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Monday, November 15th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Pinard officiating.  Burial will follow the service at South Park Cemetery in Pearland.
