Felice NussenblattFelice Nussenblatt departed this life Wednesday, November 10, 2010  at the age of 90.  She is survived by her devoted children Shelley and Jimmy Kessler, Francine and Brad Beckman, and Steve and Cynthia Nussenblatt; grandchildren Stacie and Michael Bass, Dana and Kevin Dose, Andy and Brandie Kessler and Jenny Kessler; three great grandchildren Samara and Jakxon Kessler and Corbin Bass; sisters-in-law Sophie Nussenblatt, and Clara Nussenblatt;  and many loving nieces and nephews.  She was pre-deceased by her husband Dr. Sam Nussenblatt and her son Dr. Harris Nussenblatt.

Felice was born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.  She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Iowa and taught French for several years.  She came to Galveston in 1947 where she met and married her beloved Sam Nussenblatt. 

Together, they worked side by side in his Optometry office while they raised four children.  In addition she was a favorite teacher at Ball High and an active member of the island community. 

Felice was a member of Congregation Beth Jacob where she served as Vice President and Congregation B'nai Israel.  She was president of the Jewish Federation of Galveston County, of Hadassah, of B'nai B'rith Women and of the Doughgirls Investment Club. 

In addition she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teacher’s organization.  When she and Sam lived in Houston, she served as president of Seven Acres volunteer auxiliary.  Her children’s fondest memories are of her involvement in their school and extra curricular activities, including PTA and Boy Scouts.  As she did for her children, she continued her support and involvement for her grandchildren, being there for them at all times.

Services will be held at Temple B’nai Israel on Sunday, November 14th,  2010  at 2:00 P.M.  Internment will follow at Congregation Beth Jacob Cemetery on 61st Street.  The family will be at B’nai Israel (3008 Avenue O) following burial to meet with friends.
