Maria C. Briones
Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Maria C. BrionesMaria C. Briones age 83 of Galveston passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral Mass is 11:00am Friday December 3, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Father Chacko celebrant.  The family will receive visitors from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm.

Maria was born April 25, 1927 in Abilene, Texas to Manuel Carrasco and Lonjina Lopez Carrasco. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Maria loved to dance with her husband and listening to Big Band music. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Amador Briones who passed away in 2009, 3 sisters, Luz, Lupe, and Faustina, and 3 brothers, Faustino, Manuel and Jesse. Survivors include daughters, Maria Rios and husband Jesse, and Lonnie Briones all of Galveston; sons, Amador Briones and wife Susana of Santa Fe, Ernest Briones, Sr. of Galveston, Armando Briones and wife Cheryl of Galveston, Fernando Briones and wife Cheryl of Marathon, Florida, and Ernest Briones, Jr. and wife Katrina of Galveston; sisters, Santos Gonzales of Abilene and Janie Gonzales of San Angelo; numerous grandchildren great grandchildren and 4 great –great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are grandchildren, Martin Briones, Jesse Rios, Jr., Connie Rios and Pricilla Rios.

Memorials may be sent to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in her memory.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the kind and compassionate care given to Mrs. Briones by the Doctors, nurses and staff of John Sealy Hospital.
