Galveston Historical Foundation Executive Director Dwayne Jones was enthusiastic as crowds began to build on Saturday.

"It's a great day," Jones said.  "The weather is beautiful, we have a wonderful turnout, we've had a lot of advance ticket sales so we're real excited.  Looks like a great Dickens for 2010."

Former Galveston Mayor Jan Coggeshall was also impressed with the turnout.

"There is so much entertainment and the people are here, crowds, Coggeshall said.  I think it is a good crowd and lots of things to buy, so  to me this is as good a Dickens as we've ever had."

Current Galveton Mayor Joe Jaworski and his children rode in a carriage with honored guest Lucinda Dickens Hawksley, great-great-great-daughter of Charles Dickens.

"If you think about it, we have the only true Victorian artifact in all of Galveston," said Jamie White, director of the Texas Seaport Museum. "We have a lot of Victorian architecture, but it is all American Victorian architecture."

A campaign to raise funds for the drydocking of Elissa in January is underway.  Guidry News Service has been designated the Lead Sponsor for the Elissa Drydock Campaign.
