Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus – and he wears a badge.
A host of Galveston County Sheriff’s deputies partnered with the Galveston County Citizen’s Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association, working over the past several months to make sure less fortunate children in the county would get to see some presents under their tree this Christmas.
Deputies and their citizen partners hosted two Christmas parties – one in Bacliff and one in Santa Fe – where kids got to enjoy hay rides, games, and a visit from “Deputy Claus” himself while their parents “shopped” with Citizen Sheriff’s Academy volunteers for their children’s gifts, all of which were provided through generous donations. “Deputy Claus” and all his helpers were able to make sure about 300 kids get to tear into their presents this Christmas.
The deputies and citizens didn’t stop there, though. After the parties, the Citizen’s Sheriff’s Academy members chipped in to help the Galveston Police Department’s “Blue Santa” program, providing lots of extra gifts and “elves” to make sure each was wrapped and ready for smiles on Christmas Day.
Citizen’s Sheriff’s Academy alumni and deputies are continuing their giving this season, helping several needy families throughout Galveston County with last-minute presents for the little ones.
