TEXAS CITY- Joyce V. Champion, 55, received her reward of eternal rest on Friday, December 17, 2010 at UTMB Hospital.
Joyce was born September 16, 1955, in Merced, CA. She later moved to Texas with her family. She attended public school in Galveston and excelled in track at Central and Ball High School. She was a supervisor at the Sunrise Center and a therapist assistant at Gulliver Academy both of Miami, which assisted with mentally challenged children. She always had an open heart to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stannie and Mary Bell Hampton Champion; sister, Alga Champion; and grandson, Julius Malik Champion.
She leaves with precious memories, son, Michael Champion; daughters, Tara “T.J.” Champion (Montray Burnett), Sharon Champion (Laron), Lashanda Reed (Bobby Sr.) LaJoyce Champion (Anthony); beloved companion and father of her children. Paul Smith; grandchildren, Tra’Lisha, Truman, Tyree, Marquise, Porsha, Dave, Taree, Jamaurian, Lineisha, Ray’Lyn, Ray’Aunna, Bobby, Jr., Kenadee, Anazia, and Aniyah; brothers, Douglas Lewis, Stannie Champion, Larry Champion (Althea); sisters, Tressa Brown (Edward, Sr.), Rhonda Forbes (Sam), Margaret Rittenhouse (Ronnie), and Sherri Champion; uncle, Daniel Cola; devoted nephew, McKinley Turner; special friend, Trineisha Evans; God brother, Earnest Boyd; son in law, Ray Simmons; extended family, the Smith, Watson and Williams families of Miami , FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2010, from 9–10:45 am, followed by a service celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with Pastor Lorenzo Williams, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
