LaVerne Simmons
E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary

LaVerne Simmons passed away peacefully on December 23, 2010, at Regency Village Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Laverne was born October 20, 1934, in Marshall, TX to the late Johnny and Clara Fisher. She attended school in Marshall and later moved to Texas City, with her family. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Bell Zion, Saint Luke, Jerusalem, and Fellowship Baptist Church. She was a loyal and dedicated employee with UTMB for 25 years as a Nursing Assistant and Unit Clerk.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Samuel Simmons Jr.; and sisters: LaRue Neal.

Her legacy of strength and love to her family and friends will always be cherished by her daughters: Sandra Aldridge (Thurman) of Friendswood, TX; Terri L. Watkins (Mario) of Pearland, TX; brothers: Roscoe Tucker of Los Angeles, CA and James Fisher (Linda) of Barrett Station, TX; sister: Verna Davis of Richmond, TX; grandchildren: Reginald Netherly (Rogerlyn), Sami Johnson (Belford); Tandra Aldridge, Desiree Watkins, Bianca Watkins and Winfred Aldridge; great granddaughter: Amari Netherly; devoted godson: Michael Simmons; devoted Nursing Aide, Amber Peterson; dedicated friends Janelle Caldwell and Harold Harris; and a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation will begin at 9AM on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, followed by a service celebrating her life at 10:00 a.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Rev. A.S. Johnson pastor, Rev. Todd Strayhorn officiating. She will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery.
