Helen Preacher CollinsHelen Preacher Collins, 84 received her reward of eternal rest on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Ashton Parke Care Center.

Helen was born August 11, 1926, to Charles and Angelina Preacher. A lifelong resident of Galveston, she was a 1944 graduate of Central High School. She was formerly employed with Quality Cleaners for many years. Helen was baptized at an early age by her late uncle, Rev. Peter Preacher and held a lifetime membership of St. Luke Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in numerous auxiliaries and also in the South Texas District Association.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence and Charles Preacher; and her youngest son, David E. Johnson.

Precious memories of Helen’s life will be cherished by her sons, Maurice Johnson, Jr. and Winchell Campbell; daughter, Octavia Morgan Johnson and Sadie Castro; grandson, Harold Johnson (Kenita); great grandchildren, Dakari, Kai and Koi Johnson; sister Lorraine Hendricks (Boyd); two nieces, her St. Luke family and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011, followed by a service celebrating her life at 11:00 AM at the St Luke Baptist Church with Pastor Charles E. Wheat officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
