Brazoria County
Brazoria County Commissioners Court
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Brazoria County Commissioners Court on Tuesday voted unanimously to award a $726,000 bid to The Crain Group of Pearland for the construction of a shop building for the West Service Center.

The county received 12 bids for the project. The lowest bid was submitted by Regency Commercial Construction of Grapevine, Texas. However, The Crain Group was given a three percent local bidders preference due to being headquartered within the county, which when factored in gave the company the lowest bid.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve an applicant for funds from the Wastewater Treatment Assistance Program through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for the installation of an on-site sewage facility. The application is for property at 2614 County Road 595 (Fairway), in Angleton.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to implement a “WeightWatchers at Work” program for county employees. The county would pay the upfront fees of $186 per employee for a 17-week program. The employees would reimburse the county through payroll deductions.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to renew a lease agreement with WC Properties, LTD of Houston for lease of the Pearland WIC site. The site is located at the Silver Lake Business Park on Miller Ranch Road in Pearland. The county will pay $2,190 per month for lease of the property.

The lease term takes effect April 1 and continues through March 31.

A request to solicit quotes for a public nuisance abatement project was pulled from the agenda for no action.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to reallocate $12,500 in 2009 Community Development Block Grant funds. The reallocation will de-obligate $12,500 from The Rock Community Empowerment Program Project and place $6,250 in the Brazosport Medical Center Rehabilitation Project and $6,250 in the Salvation Army Shelter Rehabilitation Project.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present.  Agenda
