“I’ve been proudly serving the Houston Pilots for 14 years,” Conway said. “That equates to about 3,300 transits up and down the Houston Ship Channel.”
Conway noted that the pilots association is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.
“Our continued goal is to provide the best available pilot service for our customers,” he said, acknowledging the support of the United States Coast Guard.
“One of the things I’m really proud of is our safety record,” Conway said. “We move up to 70 ships a day on a tight channel with a lot of barge movements, sometimes 350 a day. Known as one of the most difficult pilotage routes, the Houston pilots make hard look easy.”
