METRO Taking Steps to Keep Public Transit Warm, Safe

and Orderly Despite Frigid Local Temperatures   

Beginning at 3:30 p.m. METRO is providing warming areas at Transit Centers so patrons have temporary shelter from bitter cold and windy conditions.  METROLift “Operation Warm” vehicles will be at 20 area Transit Centers and remain in place during normal METRO service hours. 

The METROLift vehicles are a last-resort refuge during overnight hours.  METRO will decide whether to continue this service based on weather conditions.  METRO Police are working with emergency management and will provide patrols after dark to ensure the safety of patrons and METROLift drivers. These steps are being taken to provide relief during the harsh weather and rolling power outages occurring statewide and expected to continue through the next few days. 

The power outages may adversely affect METRO services as follows:

METRO bus and METROLift services:

·         System-wide sporadic delays due to traffic light outages (flashing or no signal at intersections).  

METRORail service:

·         Although METROrail has priority status with CenterPoint there is a chance that power outrages may occur along the rail line.  Service is not expected to be interrupted but delays may occur.
