The Hitchcock Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted 5-1-1, with Dianne James opposed and Pat Turner abstaining, to approve the reimplementation of corporal punishment as a discipline technique.

The school board voted unanimously to move forward the bid process for the construction of an awning at Hitchcock Primary School. The item was approved if the cost is less than $20,000.

The school board voted unanimously to order an election for May 14. Trustee District 3, currently held by Pat Turner, and District 5, currently held by Dianne James, will be on the ballot. James has filed for re-election to her position. Election Page

The school board discussed, but took no action regarding the construction of a new high school. The board was presented with architectural plans for review.

The school board received a presentation regarding preparation for the upcoming budget. No action was taken on the item.

The school board voted unanimously to select March 14 as a make-up day for Friday, February 4. The school was closed due to weather conditions that day.

The school board voted 4-3, with James, Turner and Estelle Holmes opposed, to approve a request for proposals for the purchase of athletic equipment, apparel and supplies.

The school board voted 6-0-1, with James abstaining, to approve the monthly financial report, check register and investment report for January.

The school board took no action regarding Chapter 21 contract renewals for administrators and directors, as well as non-Chapter 21 contracts. The items were discussed during an executive session.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present.  Agenda
