Harris County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit
News Release
Thursday, February 17, 2011

HOUSTON, TX – Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Cold Case Unit have arrested a woman in Tennessee for the 1987 murder of her husband in north Harris County, Texas.

Norma Jean Clark was charged with murder for the April 22, 1987 murder of her husband, Edmund High Clark. She was taken into custody in Winchester, Tennessee on February 16, 2011. Mrs. Clark, 62, is currently incarcerated in the Franklin County Jail in Winchester, Tennessee and is awaiting extradition to Harris County.

“Two tremendous public servants, Sgt. Eric Clegg and Sgt. Dean Holtke, are bringing much needed closure to the surviving families of the victims of these horrible crimes,” said Sheriff Adrian Garcia. “It is these survivors, and the memory of their loved ones, that motivate our cold case investigators, and me, to continuously find ways to bring justice and closure to their cases, regardless of how much time has gone by and regardless of the budget constraints and geographic boundaries.”

On Wednesday, April 22, 1987, at approximately 5 a.m., Harris County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a shooting in the 22900 block of Laurelwood Lane in north Harris County.

When deputies arrived, they found Edmund Hugh Clark dead in the master bedroom of the home. Mr. Clark had suffered two gunshot wounds - one to the head and the other to the back.

His wife, Norma Jean, reported being at the home when the shooting took place and claimed she was asleep in another room. Mrs. Clark reported being awakened by the gunshots and then fleeing the family home to a neighbor’s house, where deputies were called.

The murder remained unsolved until 2010 when the HCSO’s Cold Case Unit reinitiated an investigation into the case. The investigation revealed details and evidence that led to the charge of murder being filed on Mrs. Clark.
