Three Children Die in a Fire in Licensed Day Care Center in West Houston

Around 1:30 p.m., the Houston Fire Department received a report of a fire in a single-family home in the 2810 Crest Park Lane, in west Houston.  The home was operated as a licensed daycare center under the name, Jackie’s Child Care.  Firefighters arrived to find fire and smoke coming from the two-story structure.  Upon further inspection firefighters found two children outside the rear of the home, and five children still inside.  The ages of the children ranged from approximately 18 months to 3 years of age.

In all, seven children were transported to area hospitals by ambulance.  Four of them were transported with CPR in progress.  Three children were pronounced dead at three separate hospitals.  The identification of the children was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The caregiver was also transported to an area hospital.

The case is under investigation by the Houston Fire Department Arson Division, Houston Police and State Family and Protective Services investigators.   The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
