Demonstration of Residential Sprinkler System at the Southwest Fire Rescue Conference
Galveston, TX – To demonstrate the importance of residential sprinkler systems the Galveston Fire Department hosted a home fire demonstration in the Moody Gardens Hotel Parking Lot
The demonstration, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association, was part of the Southwest Fire Rescue Conference going on now through March 3 at Moody Gardens. Two typical 8X10 residential rooms were set ablaze to reveal the effectiveness of residential sprinkler systems.
The demonstration involved representatives of the sprinkler industry, Texas Fire Chiefs, Texas Fire Educators, the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, Texas State Fire Marshal, the National Fire Protection Association, and the Galveston Fire Department.
Fires in residences have taken a high toll of life and property. In 2009 there were:
377,000 residential fires
2,590 civilian fire deaths
13,050 civilian fire injuries
$7.8 billion in property damage
