On 03/03/2011, Officers of the Galveston Police Department conducted a sting targeting convenience stores selling tobacco to minors, in an effort to help minimize the complaints of sales of tobacco to minors. Officer Chris Sanderson organized and led the sting operation. 

Officer Sanderson enlisted the aid of a local Galveston teenager to attempt the purchases of tobacco products. The sting led to the arrest of four store clerks for the offense of “Sale of Tobacco to a Minor.” This sting operation was conducted as a direct result of Camstat, the departments Community Oriented Policing program.

The arrested persons, bonds, and stores are listed below:

1.) Feeroz Ahmed (a/m 8/16/72) $1500.00, Ball Food Store, 3702 Ball

2.) Shazad Din (a/m 7/5/80) $2500.00, Sam’s Market, 8227 Stewart Rd

3.) Dolores Barvalena (f/w 3/30/58) $1500.00, GMC Food Store, 1028 Seawall

4.) Varun Pant (a/m 10/1/83) $1500.00, St Joseph’s Food Store, 1702 23rd St
