PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF HONDURAS VISITS
HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO™
HOUSTON —The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the International Committee were honored today to host the president of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo Sosa.
As part of the president’s visit, Lobo met with Show Chairman of the Board Charles R. “Butch” Robinson, President Skip Wagner, Chief Operating Officer Leroy Shafer and General Manger Joe Bruce Hancock. In addition, the Lobo and his guests received a behind-the-scenes tour of Show facilities and attractions, participated in the RodeoHouston™ Grand Entry and were hosted by Show officials for the Rodeo performance.
Lobo was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Honduras, Jacobo Regalado; the Ambassador of the Republic of Honduras to the United States, Jorge Ramon Hernandez-Alcerro; and the Consul General of the Republic of Honduras in Houston, Consul General David Hernandez.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo International Days are held March 1 – 8, 2011. The International Committee provides a forum for international guests to attend educational and entertainment activities, with Show volunteers providing translation services; a business center; and assistance with cattle sales held in conjunction with the Houston Livestock Show. For the 2011 Show, the committee has hosted more than 2,000 guests from over 60 countries.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable event that benefits youth, supports education, and facilitates better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation. Since its beginning in 1932, the Show has contributed more than $250 million to scholarships, research, endowments, calf scramble participants, junior show exhibitors, the Rodeo Institute for Teacher Excellence™, School Art participants, and other educational and youth programs. The 2011 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will run March 1 – 20.
