Harris County Sheriff's Office
News Release
Thursday, March 10, 2011

HOUSTON – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Homicide Unit is investigating the fatal shooting of a suspect by an HCSO deputy.

The incident happened on March 09, 2011 at about 8:20 p.m. at the Tall Timbers apartment complex located 13155 Woodforest Blvd.

Deputy Michael Medina was responding to a noise disturbance at an apartment on the second floor. The deputy was met at the door of the apartment by the suspect, who immediately began fighting with the deputy. During the struggle, the suspect and the deputy fell down the stairs. Deputy Medina deployed his Taser at the suspect to try and subdue him, but the Taser was ineffective. At some point during the struggle, the suspect managed to take the Taser from the deputy. Deputy Medina, fearing for his safety, discharged his weapon striking the suspect once. The suspect, identified as Charles Roy, Jr., was transported to LBJ Hospital where he died during surgery.

As is procedure, the case will also be investigated by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Deputy Medina is an 8 year veteran of the HCSO. He’s assigned to patrol.
