COM Alumni Advisory Council plans March meeting
College of the Mainland Alumni and Friends Association will have a meeting of the Alumni Advisory Council from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, March 22, in the President’s Board Room in the Enrollment Center, formerly the Administration Building. The Alumni Advisory Council will play a crucial role in the formation of the Alumni and Friends Association and will begin working on the constitution and by-laws for the association. Emerging ceramic artists in Texas
The College of the Mainland Art Gallery presents Emerging Ceramic Artists in Texas Feb. 28 through March 31. Artists included in the exhibit are Jennifer Ling Dutchuk, Kira Kalondy Enriquez, Marianne McGrath and Ryan Takaba. An artist talk and reception will be held at 1:30 p.m., March 3, in the gallery. Women’s History Month at COM
COM observes women’s history month with “Our History is Our Strength,” a luncheon and speakers from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, in the COM library. Latino education and advocacy summit
COM’s Hispanic Organization for Learning Advancement is sponsoring Latino Education and Advocacy Day Summit, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, March 28. The summit encourages leadership through inspirational speakers, providing opportunities for Latinos to attend college, appreciation and education of diversity and the celebration of Latino heritage through art, music and history. COM Foundation scholarship deadline approaching
The College of the Mainland Foundation scholarship deadline for the 2011-12 academic year is Thursday, March 31. These scholarships are available to incoming freshmen students, current COM students, and incoming transfer students. In-district, out-of-district and international students are eligible to apply. The application process is online at www.com.edu/com-foundation/. COM Foundation awards approximately 125 scholarships, from $500 to $1,200, per year. Open auditions for COM Community Theatre
College of the Mainland will hold open auditions for The Sunshine Boys at 1:30 p.m on Sunday, April 3 and 7 p.m. on Monday, April 4. All actors are volunteers from the community. One does not need to be a student at COM to participate in productions. For more information call 409-933-8345.
COM to celebrate National Library Week
COM’s Multicultural team will celebrate National Library Week at 7 p.m. on April 14, in the library with speaker Johanna Liska.
