Arthur Whitney Wear, 68, of Galveston, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his residence.


His family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00 am, Friday, March 18th, at Sacred Heart Church.  Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am.  No graveside services will be held.


Arthur was born February 8, 1943, in St. Louis, MO.  He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a degree in Business Administration.  Arthur spent his working career as a longtime employee of HAS Marine Construction and later opened his own company, A.W. Wear & Co.  He was a lover of the outdoors, spending many happy hours fishing and hunting.  Arthur was also an avid football fan, especially faithful to his beloved Longhorns.  Most of all, he was a devoted husband and a loving father.


Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Melva Wear; and son, Timothy Wear.  He is survived by his wife, Gay Wear; sons, Arthur Wear, Jr. and Tom Wear; daughters, Elizabeth Thorndyke, Tiffany Wear, and Katie Wear; sister, Janice Gutierrez and husband, Abe; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.


Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Team, Inc., 1708 Amburn, Suite C, Texas City, TX 77591.
