Claudia Mae DowdyClaudia Mae Dowdy age 71 of Texas City passed from this life unto her eternal reward while in the presence of her beloved husband and numerous family and friends Monday, March 14, 2011 at her residence in Texas City. Funeral services are 11:00 am Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Church of The Living God,  3315 - 7mile Road Galveston 77554, the Reverends Pastor Robert E. Dowdy, Sr. and Pastor Robert E. “Trey” Dowdy, III officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Born January 10, 1940 in Shamrock, Texas to Grover Benjamin Lamb and Mildred Francis Pharis Lamb, Claudia was the owner of Claudia’s Enterprise, a Mary Kay Business serving many of the residents of Galveston County. She was honored as Queen of Sales for 11 years. She was the wife of Pastor Robert E. Dowdy, Sr., founder of Church of the Living God where she served as worship leader. Claudia grew up in Shamrock Texas where she played basketball. She also had a passion for playing golf. Mrs. Dowdy was a true advocate for women and made the statement many times that “women need to learn how to be happy on their own and support themselves well, and then, if God sends them a husband that would just be ‘icing on the cake ‘ “. Her love and support for her many friends will be missed yet remembered and practiced by the many friends she made wherever she traveled.

Preceded in death by her parents, her  son, Scott Oglesby, a granddaughter, Michelle Dowdy and her son in law, Stephen Kauffman, survivors include husband, Pastor Robert Earl Dowdy, Sr., daughters, Donna Glenece Kauffman of San Antonio and Patricia Carley and husband Milton of Baytown; sister, Merletta Bennett and husband Jerry of Shawnee, OK ; brother, Jimmy Lamb and wife Vivian of Lubbock; sons, Robert E. Dowdy, Jr. and wife Lynn of Houston and Samuel D. Dowdy and wife Rhonda of Lexington, TX; granddaughters, Alyssa Kauffman and Lexi Kauffman of San Antonio, Rachel Dowdy of Baytown, Grace Lack and husband Heath of Dayton, Amanda Dowdy of Lubbock, Rebecca Ware of Baytown and Megan Ware of Galveston; grandsons, Pastor Robert E. “Trey” Dowdy, III and wife Marlo of Galveston, Samuel D. Dowdy, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Salado, Daniel Dowdy and wife Lauren of Taylor and Dawson Dowdy of Houston; 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Terry Fisher, Adrian McClure, Charles Fagnana, Samuel Dowdy, Daniel Dowdy and Dawson Dowdy.
