Judge Robert Eckels named President of Lone Star High-Speed Rail, LLC

Washington, DC –Richard Lawless, President and CEO of U.S.-Japan High-Speed Rail (USJHSR) announced the appointment of Judge Robert A. Eckels as President of Lone Star High-Speed Rail, LLC (LSHSR). 

Lone Star High-Speed Rail was founded by U.S. Japan High-Speed Rail (USJHSR) to develop, deploy and operate a profitable, private high-speed rail system linking the major economic and activity centers in Texas in less than 90 minutes. 

Richard explained, “Lone Star High-Speed Rail was created to partner with U.S. and Texas companies, the State of Texas and the communities served, to take advantage of the transformational nature of high-speed rail service and technology.”

At a reception hosted by USJHSR, Chairman Yoshiyuki Kasai of Central Japan Railway Company (JRC) said, “Robert Eckels is the ideal leader for this project and his joining our team marked an important step in turning our vision of deploying a premier high-speed train in the United States a reality”. 

Eckels has a background well suited for his new position. He is a former elected County Judge of Harris County, and the founding chairman of the Texas High Speed Rail and Transportation Corporation, (a coalition of local governments, educational institutions and the private sector working to bring high-speed rail to Texas). Chairman Kasai also noted that Judge Eckels,

“. . . has extensive experience in infrastructure finance, development and operations, all key factors in the success of the project”.

Lone Star High-Speed Rail will officially open a Houston office in March 2011.
