The Hitchcock Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted 4-2-1, with Dianne James and Pat Turner opposed and Shirley Price abstaining, to approve changes to local school policy regarding student discipline concerning corporal punishment.
The school board in February had voted to bring back corporal punishment as a disciplinary action. Report
The school board took no action regarding appointment of an early voting ballot board election judge for the May 14 General Trustees Election. Candidates for both positions on the school board are unopposed.
The school board tabled action regarding a resolution to approve a reduction in force due to a financial exigency.
The school board tabled action regarding a resolution identifying employment areas to be affected as part of the reduction in force.
The school board tabled until June setting dates for several board training sessions that would take place after the May 14 election.
Training sessions include Team of Eight training, Goal Setting, Standard Operation Procedures, and Board Code of Conduct.
