Merle Drucilla Taylor passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at her home in Galveston.  Visitation will be held Saturday, March 26th, beginning at 3:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 pm, at the Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, in Galveston.  Her ashes will be scattered by her family in a private service.

Dru was born March 18, 1939 in Waycross, Georgia to Lloyd "Shorty" Dell and Harriet Merle Martin Dell. Dru loved music heart and soul, and following a career in elementary education, she became a choir director at West Isle Presbyterian Church in Galveston for several years.  Dru never met a stranger and was a warm and loving soul to all she encountered. 
 

Preceded in death by her parents, survivors include her daughters, Kathy Rochelle and Christl Bemus; her son-in-law, Cliff Rochelle; her grandson, Kevin Rochelle; her brothers, Dink Dell, Flukie Dell and Tooker Dell; her sisters, Catherine Lee and Madge Spratling; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
